Egypt (pictures from left to right) - Aswan - Our cruise on a felucca for a couple of hours down the Nile, in the early evening – a lovely way to spend the time, with great views of the city of Aswan; our friendly boat crew; Ron & Viv on the felucca; Neil & Helen on the felucca. Luxor: a great Egyptian meal at our camp in Luxor; Neil – the new shiek of Boronia – the local attire rather suits him!

Egypt (pictures from left to right) - Luxor:  the Valley of the Kings – we just did our tour of the tombs before the hordes of tourists arrived;   the impressive Temple of Hatshepsut, just across the hills from the Valley of the Kings – the statues at the temple and just a little of the art that remains on the walls of the temple;   Ramesseum, which was a large Temple complex built by Ramses 11; the large structure of the statue Colossus of Ramses 11 which once stood over 17.5-metres and with an estimated weight of over 240 tonnes of pink granite.

Egypt (pictures from left to right) - Alexandria:  the busy road (corniche) around the coast at Alexandria; Fort Qaitbey in the background that was built in 1480 from the stones of the old Pharos lighthouse – one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and the fleet of local fishing boats in front;   The Commonwealth War Cemetery at El Alamein, west of Alexandria on the coast.

Egypt (pictures from left to right) - The Mediterranean Coast: the beachfront of Mersa Matruh; one of the many busy roads and just one example of the many beautiful mosaics around town – this one a clock tower.   Siwa Oasis – the desert road to Siwa (pretty barren) just before it drops down into the oasis; our vehicle parked outside our very pleasant hotel in one of the streets just back from the market square.

Egypt (pictures from left to right - top to bottom) - Siwa Oasis – a wonderful, relaxed little town, made up of quite a few villages – the market square was the centre of town, with the remains of the old city in one corner;   the view across the villages towards the old walled city and Great Sand Sea in the background ;   a donkey & cart, with passengers, on the road to the Temple of the Oracle (in the background); the remains of the temple itself; view across the date palms to the Great Sand Sea; view from the temple over a village and date and olive groves;   the crystal clear water of Fatnas Bath on Fatnas Island in the salty expanse of Lake Siwa just a few km south-west from the village; Mohamed Zait, who owns and runs Magic Desert Tours and shop (ph: (mob) 0103 896 756) was our friendly guide for our travels around the oasis; Siwa is well known for its tapestries;   the pigeon houses are very big structures, positively palatial – the people love to eat pigeon!
